Even among Muslims like myself, meeting someone can be far from traditional nowadays. Although my idea of a relationship may be a little different, the Muslim marriage scene is evolving just as quickly as the dating scene. A couple of years ago, I attended my first ever diversity and inclusion training at work. Being a visible minority myself, I was curious. So I took my seat and was ready to hear all about how people like me should be treated.

Well, it was a long hour (yes, just an hour). It started with a lot of misinformation and ended with…

As the saying goes, “Do what you love and you won’t have to work a day in your life”. And given where I am today, I firmly believe that. But, a few years ago, I wasn’t so sure.

A few years ago, I made the decision to start my own cake business. I had been making cakes for family and friends for a couple of years and was constantly getting told that I should sell them. …

To preface, I want to admit that I am a very picky eater. So on top of the Islamic rulings I follow, I also have at tongue that betrays me and hates vegetables. But despite that, I always find something to eat. At any restaurant. And here’s how:

So, to all the people wondering where to start, here are five things I did that got me noticed and landed me a contract to be a vendor for wedding packages:

1. Have Your Website and Portfolio Set Up Before Launch

I know this sounds like a no brainer, but a website and portfolio does wonders for a cake business. …

Weddings are stressful. Period. It needs no explanation. No longer winded intro. They’re just stressful. What you don’t need, is another thing to add to your stress. So to save you time and a lot of headache, here are 4 things to talk about with your baker and cake decorator to make sure your wedding cake is 100% halal.

Tip 1: The Gold

People love gold on everything. Even their cakes. But, gold in cakes is the secret no one tells you about. Many people don’t know that putting gold on cakes is actually an interesting process that involves mixing…

The other day, my friends and I were talking about names. A conversation that is often triggered by pregnancy and Starbucks. Eventually, the conversation transformed into a heated debate. Half the room was in favor of giving children simple and short names that are easy to pronounce. And the other half thought this was akin to cultural genocide. And then one friend asked us this question:

Why are we naming our children based on what the tongues of random strangers can pronounce? Are our tongues insignificant?

She was right. Easy to pronounce for who? Any name we choose is going…
